![]() ![]() ![]() So much Game of Thrones! I might need a second TV. Kit Harington has kept a tight lid on that one, but he reportedly met with HBO to pitch the idea last year. King Harren the Black completes the construction of his new seat, Harrenhal, on the day Aegon Targaryen lands in Westeros. They land with their three dragons on three hills close to the mouth of the Blackwater Rush. HBO already has its hands full with making Season Two of House of the Dragon, and even that is already getting reduced from ten episodes to just eight. Aegon Targaryen and his two Queens, Visenya and Rhaenys, begin their Wars of Conquest. Yes, though the project-titled SNOW-is still only heavily rumored. Will There Still Be a Jon Snow Spinoff Sequel? If House of the Dragon takes place roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, Aegon's Conquest happens another 100 years before House of the Dragon. He's also the original owner of the knife that Viserys wouldn't shut up about. He was the first official king of Westeros, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and the first ruler to sit on the Iron Throne. Along with his two sister-wives (gross, I know), he conquered and united all of Westeros, forming the Seven Kingdoms. So, which Aegon did the "Conquest?" The answer is the Aegon, known appropriately as Aegon the Conqueror. ![]() The current boy king at the end of House of the Dragon's first season is even named Aegon. It sometimes seems like there are a hundred guys named Aegon in Game of Thrones. Though the project has yet to be officially announced, HBO is reportedly "keen to move forward." There may even be a feature film that leads into the series-mirroring something close to Marvel's rollout. According to Variety, HBO is currently discussing the possibility of another prequel series set around Aegon's Conquest. And its prequel spinoff series, House of the Dragon, racked up even more numbers than its predecessor. Game of Thrones, of course, was one of HBO's biggest hits of all time. Aenys sailed to King's Landing and claimed the Iron Throne, which stood in the rubble and mud leftover from the Aegonfort. The age of dragons is upon us. Īenys I Targaryen was proclaimed king after his father died at Dragonstone in 37 AC. Visenya and Lord Alyn Stokeworth, the Hand of the King, oversaw construction of the new castle, which would become known as the Red Keep. Aegon moved his family back to Dragonstone, and he ordered the Aegonfort razed to the ground. In 35 AC the elderly King Aegon I came to the realization that the ramshackle pile of wood and earth that his seat consisted of was unsuited to be the seat of power for a king. It was a mess of wood, earth, and brick which had outgrown the old log palisades. Over the next few decades, the Aegonfort grew larger and came to spread halfway down Aegon's High Hill. Princess Rhaena and her brother, Prince Aegon, played together in the nurseries of Dragonstone and the Aegonfort. The Wars of Conquest were a series of campaigns by House Targaryen to conquer the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. įollowing the First Dornish War, Aegon often resided at the Aegonfort when not participating in a royal progress, while Queen Visenya Targaryen preferred the comforts of Dragonstone, the ancient seat of House Targaryen. Queen Rhaenys Targaryen decreed the rule of thumb after holding court in the Aegonfort. The city of King's Landing developed around the Aegonfort, the seat from which King Aegon I Targaryen ruled the Seven Kingdoms. Swords of those defeated in the burning of Harrenhal and the Field of Fire were sent to the Aegonfort by wagon, and the Iron Throne was created from these melted, broken blades. Aegon's knights unveiled the heraldic banner of House Targaryen for the first time, Visenya Targaryen placed a crown on Aegon's head, and Rhaenys Targaryen proclaimed him King of All Westeros. These men laid their swords at the conqueror's feet, and the Conqueror confirmed them in their lands and titles. After defeating a dozen castles in the vicinity of Blackwater Bay, Aegon I Targaryen commanded the defeated lords to attend him at the new Aegonfort. In the aftermath of Aegon's Landing, construction began on a crude wood-and-earth castle on the top of Aegon's High Hill at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush. However, the Aegonfort was only a tenth as roomy as the older castle of Dragonstone, which was also more secure and comfortable. The Iron Throne was installed in the smoky longhall. As the Aegonfort grew, it gained a barracks, an armory, a sept, and a drum tower within its palisade. Across from the bailey was a stone kitchen roofed in slate, and the growing castle also had stables and a granary. This initial design was quickly replaced with a new log keep with walls fifty feet high and a cavernous longhall below it. The Aegonfort began as a motte-and-bailey fort on the top of Aegon's High Hill at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush. ![]()
